Mercedes S63 AMG / 3-inch downpipe build
2016 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG: bespoke 3-inch downpipes.
A 2016 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 5.5L V8 Bi-Turbo came to Pi Motorsport for a deeper exhaust note and improved flow. We fabricated custom stainless steel 3-inch downpipes in-house; MTC Performance separately carried out its Stage 2 ECU tune. The workshop film shows the car and finished underbody pipework.

The brief: a deeper V8 note and a tailored performance setup.
The owner of this 2016 S63 AMG wanted its twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 to sound deeper and more purposeful while improving exhaust flow for a Stage 2 performance setup. Their brief called for a strong V8 rumble and defined overrun sounds without losing the car's everyday usability.
Pi Motorsport's part of the project was to design, fabricate and fit bespoke downpipes for this vehicle. The ECU calibration was carried out separately by MTC Performance. This distinction matters when comparing the build with a downpipe-only enquiry.
Stainless steel 3-inch downpipes, built around the S63.
The workshop fabricated stainless steel downpipes with a 76.2 mm (3-inch) pipe diameter. Pi Motorsport's build notes describe checking alignment, surrounding clearances and fitment against the existing exhaust. The new sections were welded directly to the original system and supported with stainless steel brackets.
The supplied specification records no separate silencers, resonators, valves or tailpipes as part of this downpipe work. It does not identify a stainless grade or catalyst arrangement, so those details should be confirmed for any similar project rather than assumed from this example.
Stage 2 tuning by MTC Performance and the finished sound.
MTC Performance carried out the Stage 2 ECU remap. Pi Motorsport's supplied case study reports an approximate combined output of 720 bhp and 1,200 Nm after tuning, and says the calibration included pops and bangs. These are client-reported figures for this vehicle, not an independently verified dyno result or a claim for the downpipes alone; a measurement sheet was not supplied with the brief.
The team describes the finished car as having a deeper V8 rumble with crisp overrun sounds and a secure, carefully aligned installation. The original 75-second reel shows the Mercedes, workshop footage and twin pipework beneath the car. A recording can give a sense of character, but it cannot establish a measured sound level or guarantee that another car will sound the same.
Discussing a custom S63 downpipe build.
For a similar Mercedes-AMG project, share the exact model year, current exhaust and engine setup, intended road or track use, and the sound you want at cruising speed as well as under acceleration. The workshop can then assess the available space, suitable materials, emissions requirements and a vehicle-specific quotation.
This case study describes one bespoke car, not a fixed specification or a ready-to-fit product. Pi Motorsport handles the exhaust fabrication at its Birmingham workshop and welcomes specialist enquiries from owners across the UK. Any tuning requirement should be discussed separately, including who will carry it out and how its results will be measured.

Questions about a similar build.
What downpipes were fitted to this Mercedes S63 AMG?
Pi Motorsport fabricated stainless steel downpipes with a 76.2 mm (3-inch) pipe diameter for this 2016 S63 AMG. The sections were welded to the existing system and supported with stainless steel brackets.
Did Pi Motorsport carry out the Stage 2 remap?
No. MTC Performance carried out the ECU tuning. Pi Motorsport designed and fabricated the custom downpipes.
Was the S63 independently verified at 720 bhp?
The client-supplied build account reports approximately 720 bhp and 1,200 Nm after the Stage 2 tune, but no dyno sheet was supplied with this case study. These figures should not be read as a guaranteed result for another car.
