Precision stainless exhaust fabrication beneath a performance car

A cat-back built for your car, not an average of everyone else's.

A bespoke rear system for drivers who want the pipework, silencers, tips and sound strategy specified around their own vehicle and use.

Is this the right project for Pi Motorsport?

A complete written cat-back brief covering system boundary, material, diameter, sound-control components, joints, tips, ground clearance and the checks expected at handover.

  • Performance road cars needing a more purposeful but usable sound
  • Classic cars where off-the-shelf systems fit or sound poorly
  • Modified vehicles requiring non-standard routing or bumper exits
  • Owners replacing an ageing or badly fabricated rear system

The decisions that shape the result.

These are the project-specific choices discussed before the fabrication scope is approved.

01

Sound brief

Cold start, idle, acceleration, cruise and motorway behaviour are discussed separately. 'Louder' is not a complete specification.

02

Diameter and routing

Pipe size is matched to the existing front section, engine output, available space and intended use rather than selected for appearance alone.

03

Silencers and resonators

Component volume, internal design and position influence tone and drone. They are planned as a system, not added after the fact.

04

Tips and finish

Tip diameter, projection, spacing and bumper relationship are measured on the vehicle. The finish should look intentional from every angle.

Define the sound before choosing parts

Useful sound descriptions include when the car should be quiet, which engine character should remain audible and what behaviour is unacceptable. A daily motorway car needs a different solution from a weekend car even when both owners ask for a deeper note.

Videos of systems you like can help, but recording devices and playback speakers change sound. Pi Motorsport uses them as direction, then specifies the physical components around the actual vehicle.

Fitment, movement and longevity

A system has to clear the body, subframes, suspension and heat-sensitive components while still allowing for engine and exhaust movement. Hanger position, joint location and tube route are therefore part of durability, not cosmetic details.

The retained front section is inspected before fabrication. Corrosion, previous repairs or an unsuitable connection can change the sensible system boundary and should be resolved before new work is attached.

Daily use, touring and classic cars

For long-distance and premium road use, cabin comfort matters alongside exterior character. Silencer volume, resonator strategy and the position of sound-control components can be used to retain a strong tone without making steady-speed journeys tiring.

Classic vehicles often need extra attention around floor clearance, axle movement, fuel systems and period-appropriate exits. A custom system can respect the car's appearance while improving fit and serviceability.

Built in Birmingham for projects across the UK

Pi Motorsport's workshop is in Birmingham, with its central location making specialist work practical for customers travelling from London, Southampton, Bournemouth, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Scotland and elsewhere in the UK.

Travel should be arranged only after the vehicle brief and likely workshop window are confirmed. Complex or corroded vehicles may require an assessment before a final fabrication booking.

Completion standard

What should be clear at handover.

  1. 01System boundary and component specification confirmed
  2. 02Tip alignment and bumper clearances reviewed
  3. 03Accessible joints, hangers and leak points checked
  4. 04Sound reviewed against the agreed brief
  5. 05Aftercare and follow-up route explained

Travelling to Birmingham for custom cat-back exhaust systems?

Our workshop is at 44a Tyburn Road in Birmingham. If you are travelling from elsewhere in the UK, send the vehicle details and intended result first. We can discuss the likely scope, appointment and workshop time before you arrange travel.

The next step

Confirm the right appointment.

For an unfamiliar vehicle or a project still being specified, start with an exhaust assessment. A complete installation slot is best reserved once the work has been agreed with the workshop.
