Is this the right project for Pi Motorsport?

A clear fault assessment separating the immediate failure from its cause, with repair, section replacement and complete-system options explained before work begins.

  • Leaks, cracked welds and failed joints
  • Rattles, knocks and poor underbody clearance
  • Failed flexi sections, hangers and supports
  • Damaged or badly fabricated custom exhausts
  • Classic systems where replacement parts are unavailable

The decisions that shape the result.

These are the project-specific choices discussed before the fabrication scope is approved.

01

Failure versus cause

A cracked weld may be the visible symptom of poor support, alignment or movement. A lasting repair addresses both.

02

Surrounding material

A local weld is only appropriate when the adjacent tube remains sound enough to support it.

03

Repair boundary

Targeted repair, fabricated replacement section and full replacement are compared against condition, access and expected life.

04

Safety and fumes

Strong cabin fumes, insecure sections or sudden major noise changes require prompt assessment and may make continued driving inappropriate.

Diagnose before cutting

Noise can travel through an exhaust and vehicle body, so the loudest point heard from outside is not always the failed component. The system is inspected for soot marks, movement, contact, failed mounts, damaged flexis and poor previous joints.

Pi Motorsport also considers why the failure occurred. Repairing a crack without correcting stress, alignment or support can reproduce the same fault beside the new weld.

When a targeted repair is appropriate

Local repair is sensible when the surrounding material is sound, the damaged area can be accessed and the completed joint can be supported correctly. A fabricated section may be better when corrosion or previous repairs extend beyond one small point.

Where the wider system is no longer suitable for a lasting repair, that limitation is explained before work proceeds. The aim is not to create a cheap repair that fails immediately outside the repaired area.

Custom and classic exhaust repair

Previously modified systems can contain mixed materials, poor transitions, stressed hangers or inaccessible joints. Specialist repair may require remaking a complete local section so it integrates correctly with the retained work.

For classics and conversions, a repair can preserve rare components or recreate an unavailable section while respecting axle movement, floor clearance and the vehicle's appearance.

Regional and long-distance repair enquiries

A routine local repair may not justify travelling across the country, but repair of a specialist custom system, conversion or classic installation can. Send wide and close photographs, sound evidence, the history of the system and any urgent safety symptoms before arranging travel to Birmingham.

Pi Motorsport will explain whether the enquiry appears suitable for specialist fabrication or should first be inspected by a nearby workshop.

Completion standard

What should be clear at handover.

  1. 01Repair boundary and retained sections identified
  2. 02Root cause addressed where visible and in scope
  3. 03Supports, clearance and accessible joints checked
  4. 04Leak and symptom check completed
  5. 05Further monitoring or future work explained
